RE: What is just one fond memory that from your childhood?

The first time my parents let me go solo, at age 16, into the Cascade Mountains on horseback and leading a pack horse with provisions. Maybe not the safest endeavor but a grand one just the same. The solitude and feeling of independence was overwhelming. (And a little spooky, I might add)

Any snowmobilers?

If so, give me your favorite riding areas, particularly in the Pacific Northwest Cascade Mountains, but any others are also welcome.

RE: My Son's First Solo!!!!!

That is great. Many wonderful hours ahead if you and he keep flying. So many neat things when you learn to fly.....the first solo, the little trainer seems to jump off the runway without the weight of the flight instructor on board; first cross country, sweating out whether or not you will find your destination. (No GPS when I learned to fly) and finally....the check ride.
Many happy hours in the air to you and your son.

RE: Turn cheap, nasty tasting wine into fine wine

I prefer fruit juice that is not fermented. If I want some alcohol I prefer it be from grain, not fruit.

RE: Mark Knofler concert- excellent

I'll bet it was great. A few weeks ago I ran into an old school friend, Noke Edwards, one of the original Ventures. Remember the theme from Hawaii 5-0?

Finally! Relief from the Nigerian scammers!

Have you received this one yet? An e-mail from the Nigerian Supreme Court acknowledging that I have been the target of scammers from that country. The Nigerian Supreme Court has requested certain personal information, including my driver's license number, so that they may process my relief and send me a locked strongbox containing 1.5 million U.S. dollars in compensation. Of course, I must send them $375 (U.S.) for processing fees and shipping charges on the strongbox of money. It's about time!

RE: Belmont Stakes - Big Brown

The Triple Crown is a very grueling series. Three route races in five weeks. Very tough schedule and few horses, as evidenced by the small number of Triple Crown winners (11) since the inception of the series in 1919, are up to the task. Big Brown was not pulled up. Desormeaux did the proper thing when he eased Big Brown after realizing he did not have enough horse left to be a serious contender. The horse is saved.

RE: Indian Casinos, Washington

There are now somewhere between 25 and 30 tribal casinos in the state of Washington. It has been a time since I was associated with the gambling industry and at the time I left there were 27. Washington state ranks about third in the number of tribal casinos in the U.S. My involvement in the industry was as part of the negotiation team working out the tribal/state compacts.

RE: Going out to all people who live in Montana

We don't live in Montana but still own a sizeable chunk of the state (actually, not such a sizeable chunk by Montana standards....only 640 acres) that was DW's grandfather's homestead. We spend a great deal of time in Montana and I am always in awe of the beauty of the state, particularly in the mountains. Our property is in the Big Belt Mountains on the east side of the divide but still in mountainous country. I used to hunt a great deal but now hunt only with my digital camera.
To the original poster: take the time to visit as many sections of the state as you can. You are bound to find someplace you will call heaven. Sure, the winters can get cold but I have never outgrown my love for four distinct seasons.

RE: Going out to all people who live in Montana

Take my advice and check out the Flathead valley area. Much more scenic and there is more culture. Just gotta watch out for the tourists during the "high season". :B
In addition, check out the Bitterroot Valley and Helena Valley areas if you wish to have a larger city relatively close by. My preference is either west of the continental divide or close by the Rocky Mountain Front on the east side of the divide.

RE: Going out to all people who live in Montana

Check out Cabela's Trophy Properties online. They list acreage throughout the country, including Montana, through affiliated realtors. Most of their listings are for fairly large parcels which may be more than you are looking for.

RE: Gun Threat at my Son's School for Tomorrow

Not to turn this into a pro/anti gun topic (it is a people topic) but haven't times (people) changed? When I went to high school in a very rural area I could leave my rifle, and ammo, in my car in the school parking lot ready for hunting or plinking after school and nothing was thought of it.
